In a world of constant input, emotions often accumulate without resolution. We scroll, react, and store fragments of feeling but rarely pause to process or release them. Hold & Release began from this observation: the quiet need for moments of reflection within everyday digital experiences.

What if physical gestures could become emotional data?

Hold & Release explores how physical gestures can express emotion and memory. The project turns the simple act of holding and letting go into an interactive experience between human and machine. Using a flex sensor, it measures tension in the hand and translates that data into visual responses , capturing the emotional rhythm of grasping and releasing.

Through light, motion, and timing, Hold & Release reflects how we experience attachment, tension, and relief, showing how technology can translate human emotion into digital form.

What I Learned

What I Learned

Through Hold & Release, I learned how physical gestures can translate emotion into digital form. Working with the flex sensor and p5.js taught me the power of subtle motion, how small changes in pressure or timing can convey human feeling.

Next, I plan to expand the concept with additional sensors and visuals that capture more emotional nuance, exploring how technology can reflect inner states like tension, calm, or relief through simple, poetic interaction.
